Chandigarh/Hyderabad, July 4 (Maxim News): Congress MP Manish Tewari on Saturday questioned the rationale behind resuming dialogue with Pakistan, stating that any engagement would be meaningless unless Islamabad first ends its support for cross-border terrorism.
His remarks came in response to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who recently said that no one should object to India-Pakistan dialogue if the objective is to improve bilateral relations. Abdullah noted that tensions between the two countries have persisted for decades and said efforts to restore ties should not be opposed.
Tewari, however, argued that Pakistan has pursued a strategy of destabilising India since the 1971 war.
“After the creation of Bangladesh, Pakistan has sought revenge by promoting terrorism against India. Their strategy has been to ‘bleed India with a thousand cuts’,” he said.
Congress MP Cites Pahalgam Attack
Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were reportedly killed after being identified by their religion, Tewari said India should not overlook such incidents while considering talks with Pakistan.
“What exactly do you want to talk about with Pakistan? India has only one demand—that Pakistan must stop promoting terrorism,” he said.
The Congress leader also questioned whether Pakistan had provided any credible assurance that its territory would no longer be used for anti-India terrorist activities. He recalled that similar commitments made by former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh, and Narendra Modi were never fulfilled.
Meanwhile, Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi criticised those advocating dialogue with Pakistan, alleging they were supporting Pakistan’s narrative.
He reiterated the Centre’s position that Operation Sindoor has not ended but has only been suspended, adding that those favouring Pakistan would continue to make such statements.
