Seva Tirth PMO Shift From South Block Tomorrow

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will shift the Prime Minister’s Office to the newly built Seva Tirth Complex on Friday. The move marks the complete vacation of the British era North and South Blocks in the national capital Delhi. Before the shift, the Prime Minister will hold his last Cabinet meeting at the old office at 4 pm.

The final Central Cabinet meeting will take place at the South Block in Raisina Hills in Lutyens’ Delhi. Meanwhile, the Central Home Ministry has already vacated the North Block. It has shifted to a 347 room complex in the Common Central Secretariat.

Seva Tirth to house PMO and key secretariats

Except for the PMO, the Common Central Secretariat complex now houses the offices of all government ministers and departments. However, the PMO has been built in a separate complex in Central Delhi. It is known that the PMO will henceforth be called Seva Tirth.

The government said Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate Seva Tirth and Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 at a programme on February 13. Officials stated that the new buildings aim to provide a modern, robust and convenient administrative system. They also said that offices of various departments, which were earlier located far apart, have now been brought together. Therefore, the government expects smoother coordination.

Kartavya Bhavan to host major ministries

Seva Tirth will house the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat. Earlier, these offices operated from different areas. Now, they will function from one location.

Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 will accommodate several key ministries. These include Finance, Defence, Health, Corporate Services, Education, Culture, Law, Information and Broadcasting, Agriculture, Chemicals and Tribal Affairs. Moreover, there will be digital integration between all offices.

A world class museum, Yuge Yuge Bharat Museum, will be built between the existing North and South Blocks. The museum will depict the journey of Indian civilization. Work on the museum has already begun at the North Block.

With the inauguration of the new office buildings, officials said a new milestone has been reached in Indian administration. They added that these steps were taken to make governance more convenient and efficient.
