Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft landed on the first Emergency Landing Facility in Northeast India, marking a historic moment in Assam. The aircraft, a C 130J, touched down at the newly set up Emergency Landing Facility located 300 km from the China border.
The development signals a key step in strengthening emergency response systems in the region. The Emergency Landing Facility is designed for take off and landing during critical situations. Therefore, it can support rapid action when regular airports face disruption.
Emergency Landing Facility Near China Border Inaugurated
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Emergency Landing Facility on Friday. On this occasion, the Air Force performed special exercises. The landing of the Prime Minister’s aircraft highlighted the operational readiness of the facility.
Modi also posted about the Emergency Landing Facility on X. He said that this ELF is crucial for relief operations and emergency response in difficult times. The statement underlined the importance of the project in handling unforeseen crises.
The facility is located 300 km from the China border. Hence, it assumes added importance amid border tensions. Officials indicated that such infrastructure strengthens preparedness in sensitive regions.
ELF To Support Indian Air Force During Emergencies
In case of any emergency, if the Dibrugarh Airport and Chabua Air Force Station are not operational, authorities will use this Emergency Landing Facility as an alternative. As a result, the Indian Air Force can respond quickly when tensions arise in the border areas.
The ELF has been designed specifically for take off and landing. Similar Emergency Landing Facilities are already in place in western, northern and central India. However, setting up one in northeastern India has become important during the border disputes with China.
The landing of the C 130J aircraft demonstrates the readiness of the new infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Air Force exercises showcased coordinated operational capability. The event, therefore, marks a significant addition to India’s emergency and defence preparedness network in the Northeast.
