Renuka Chowdhury Gets Privileges Committee Notice

Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury has received a notice from the Parliament Privileges Committee. The committee has sought her explanation over allegations linked to the Parliament premises incident during the winter session last December.

According to the notice, the committee has asked her to respond to claims that she brought a dog into the Parliament premises and made inappropriate comments towards MPs. It has directed her to submit her reply by the 23rd of this month.

Renuka Chowdhury Notice Over Dog Entry Issue

During the winter session held last December, Renuka Chowdhury brought a stray dog into the Parliament premises in her car. Some members objected to this move. Later, she was accused of making harsh comments, stating that only those sitting inside bite, and dogs do not bite.

BJP MPs Brij Lal and Indu Bala Goswami served a privilege notice on her over the matter. They alleged that her remarks were defamatory of the dignity of public representatives. They also said the act violated security norms.

Privileges Committee Seeks Written Reply

The House Privileges Committee met last week to examine the issue. After discussions, it decided to seek a written explanation from her.

When media questioned her earlier, she responded sarcastically, saying, “Bhau Bhau… what else can I say?” The remark later became a topic of discussion. However, she maintained that she had rescued an injured dog on the road. She also said that the government had no love for animals.

Meanwhile, sources in her office said she would respond to the notices in accordance with parliamentary rules and constitutional principles. The matter is now under review by the Privileges Committee.
