Telangana CS Race Heats Up as Rao Retirement Nears
Telangana CS | Hyderabad, Feb. 19: With Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao’s tenure ending on March 31, speculation has intensified over who will head the Telangana administration next.
Officials are debating whether the government will extend his tenure or appoint a new Chief Secretary. Ramakrishna Rao retired in August last year, and the Centre granted him a seven month extension.
Now, discussions are underway about a possible further extension. However, if the Centre does not approve it, senior IAS officers are actively lobbying for the post.
Telangana CS | Speculation Grows
Sources indicate that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy holds a positive view of Ramakrishna Rao’s performance. He reportedly believes extending the current Chief Secretary’s tenure may ensure administrative stability.
After assuming office, Ramakrishna Rao focused on improving coordination among departments. Moreover, he maintains strong ties with senior officials in the Union government.
As a result, several pending state proposals reportedly received faster clearances. Therefore, some officials favour extending his tenure by another six months.
Meanwhile, senior IAS officers have intensified efforts to secure the position. Reports suggest that a few officers have raised objections to another extension.
Others are said to be lobbying at the state and national levels. Among those in the race are Special Chief Secretaries Jayesh Ranjan, Sabyasachi Ghosh and Vikas Raj.
In addition, Sanjay Jaju, who is currently serving in central service, is also said to be exploring his prospects for the Chief Secretary post.
