US-Iran Tensions: Trump Sets Deadline For Iran Of 10-15 Days

US-Iran Tensions: United States and Iran have escalated sharply after US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Tehran, saying Iran would face “bad things” if it fails to strike a “meaningful deal” with Washington within the next 10 days.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace on Thursday, Trump made it clear that negotiations cannot drag on indefinitely. He stated that if Iran does not move forward with a substantial agreement, the United States would “have to take it a step further.” The US President also emphasized that lasting peace in the Middle East would remain impossible so long as Iran possesses nuclear weapons.

Talks Mediated by Oman in Geneva

The fresh warning follows the second round of US-Iran talks held in Geneva and mediated by Oman. The discussions come amid persistent disagreements over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the impact of US sanctions.

Washington’s primary objective remains preventing Iran from developing a nuclear bomb — an allegation Tehran continues to deny, insisting that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. On the other hand, Iran is seeking relief from crippling US sanctions that have severely impacted its economy.

White House Strategy and Military Readiness

On Wednesday, President Trump held a high-level meeting with his son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff to receive updates on the negotiations. Senior officials also convened in the Situation Room to evaluate potential courses of action.

According to a US official, military preparations are underway, with all American forces deployed to the region expected to be fully positioned by mid-March. The United States has reportedly moved advanced F-35 and F-22 fighter jets closer to the Middle East. Additionally, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has been stationed near Iranian waters since January.

Rising Military Threats

The latest developments come against the backdrop of previous unrest in Tehran. Following anti-regime protests last December, the United States had warned of potential military intervention in the Islamic Republic after a deadly crackdown on demonstrators.

With diplomatic efforts ongoing and military deployments intensifying, the coming days are expected to be critical in determining whether Washington and Tehran can find common ground — or whether the standoff will escalate further, raising fears of broader instability in the Middle East.
