Hyderabad: Constable Soumya’s family received Rs 2.80 lakh from the Excise Department Retired Employees Association. The association donated one day’s pension to support the family. Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao handed over the cheque at the Dr BR Ambedkar Secretariat on Friday.
The association came forward to help the family of Excise Constable Soumya, who laid down her life in the line of duty. Members announced that they would donate one day’s pension. Therefore, the total contribution reached Rs 2.80 lakh. The Minister personally presented the cheque to Soumya’s family members.
Speaking on the occasion, Jupally Krishna Rao praised the generosity of retired employees. He said they stood by the family during a difficult time. He also reminded that the government had already provided financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to Soumya’s family. In addition, the government provided a government job to her brother.
The Minister assured that the government recognises the efforts of excise personnel in drug control. He said it would stand by them at all times. He clarified that an iron fist will be imposed on marijuana and illegal liquor in the state. Meanwhile, he revealed that the long pending transfer process in the Excise Department will be resolved soon. He said transfers of about 2,500 constables will be completed within a week. Later, transfers of officers in other ranks will be taken up in a phased manner.
Jupally Krishna Rao also expressed deep sorrow over the death of a child at the Mallikarjuna Swamy Jatara in Kummera, Nagarkurnool district. He assured the victim’s family of government support. He said three main accused have already been arrested and sent to remand. A search is on for the remaining accused.
The Minister further said that efforts are underway to develop infrastructure to make Telangana a destination for domestic and foreign tourists. He added that special focus has been given to water sports, eco and wellness tourism under the new tourism policy. Signboards are being set up along roads leading to tourist areas to help visitors. Excise Retired Employees Association President Mukunda Reddy, representatives Vishnu Swaroop Reddy, Nizamabad Deputy Commissioner Somireddy, Soumya’s family members and others attended the programme.
