Special Revision Deletes 63.66 Lakh Votes In Bengal

Hyderabad: A total of 63.66 lakh votes were discarded in West Bengal during the Special Revision of the Electoral Roll, state Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal announced on Saturday. The deletions account for 8.3 percent of the total voters in the state.

The CEO said that before the Special Revision, West Bengal had 7.66 crore voters. However, after the exercise, the number has reduced to 7.04 crore. The large-scale revision aimed to update the electoral roll and remove ineligible entries.

Special Revision Sees Deletions Under Multiple Categories

During the Special Revision, officials deleted over 58 lakh votes under categories such as deceased, migrated, registered at two places, and missing. In addition, 5,46,053 votes were removed based on Form 7 submissions.

Officials revealed that among the deleted names, 24.16 lakh belonged to deceased voters. Meanwhile, 12.20 lakh voters were listed as missing. Also, 19.88 lakh voters had permanently changed their address, leading to removal from the roll. Authorities carried out the exercise as part of the Special Revision process to ensure accuracy.

New Voters Added Through Form 6 and Form 8

At the same time, the revision process added new names to the electoral roll. The CEO stated that 1.82 lakh new voters were included through Form 6 and Form 6A. These forms help eligible citizens register themselves as voters.

Moreover, the names of 6,671 voters who shifted from one area to another within the state were added through Form 8. Therefore, while deletions were significant, additions also took place to maintain an updated and verified voter list.

The Special Revision exercise led to a net decrease in the total voter count. However, officials emphasized that the process followed established procedures under the electoral framework. The final voter count now stands at 7.04 crore after the completion of the Special Revision in West Bengal.
