Jagtial Hyderabad Mar 4: War fears have gripped Telangana households with family members in Gulf nations as tensions escalate in West Asia following the Iran and Israel conflict. Families of migrant workers say they are anxious and remain in constant contact with their relatives abroad.
Telangana families anxious over Iran Israel conflict
The anxiety has grown after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. In response, retaliatory drone and missile attacks targeted US military installations in parts of the Gulf region. As a result, families in districts such as Jagtial have been making frequent phone and video calls to check on the safety of their loved ones.
Relatives say they closely follow reports of airstrikes and missile attacks. Meanwhile, migrant labourers in affected regions are reportedly staying indoors. They are limiting movement and stocking up on essential supplies as a precaution. An unconfirmed report of a Pakistani national allegedly killed in a missile strike has further raised concerns among families in Telangana. However, migrant workers continue to send regular updates and video messages to reassure their relatives.
Flights cancelled to Gulf destinations
In view of the security situation, several countries, including India, have suspended flight services to Gulf destinations. International flights from Hyderabad to Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Doha and Dubai were cancelled. Consequently, several Indian travellers were left stranded. Some Indians who travelled to the United Arab Emirates for tourism and other purposes could not return due to these disruptions.
Gulf based organisations have circulated advisories and emergency contact numbers. They have urged migrant workers not to panic and to follow official instructions. Authorities have also advised Indian nationals in the region to remain vigilant and stay in touch with local missions for assistance.
Lakhs of people from Telangana have migrated to Gulf countries for employment. Significant numbers come from north Telangana districts, including the erstwhile Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad regions. While many work in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, others are employed in Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Malaysia and Singapore.
