The campaign highlights a key health concern. Many women in India place family responsibilities before their own health. As a result, they face higher risks of preventable vision problems. The initiative therefore focuses on improving access to timely eye care.

Campaign encourages pledges for women’s eye check ups

The programme was launched to mark International Women’s Day 2026. It encourages people to pledge a free eye check up for an important woman in their lives. Participants can submit a short pledge form online or nominate someone through a phone call.

Once a nomination is received, the hospital team contacts the woman directly. They then arrange a priority appointment for a free consultation at the nearest Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital centre. These appointments are available between March 8 and March 31, 2026.

Dr Ashvin Agarwal, Chief Clinical Officer and Senior Ophthalmologist, highlighted the need for such efforts. He said, “Studies show women have 35% higher odds of blindness and significantly lower access to cataract surgery, while a large population of women remain at risk of preventable vision loss each year due to caregiving responsibilities, cultural influences, and economic barriers often prevent them from seeking timely vision care.”

Dr Daggula Devi Bharathi, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital in Tirupati, also stressed the importance of early screening. She said, “Through this campaign, we are offering free comprehensive eye examinations and clinical consultations for women nationwide. Early and regular eye check-ups play a crucial role in preventing avoidable vision impairment, enabling timely diagnosis and ensuring the right treatment at the right time.”

Meanwhile, the hospital network has set priority consultation hours for women on weekdays and weekends. During these hours, ophthalmologists will focus on dedicated consultations. Nominated women will also receive faster check ins and access to private consultation spaces on Sundays.
