- Petition challenges party change, seeks action on Speaker verdict
- Aleti Maheshwar Reddy raises disqualification plea in court
Hyderabad: The High Court has issued notices to Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender in connection with a petition challenging his change of party. The court is hearing the matter following a petition filed by BJP Legislative Party Leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy.
According to the petition, Aleti Maheshwar Reddy requested that the Speaker’s verdict on Danam Nagender’s change of party be set aside. He raised concerns over the legality of the move. He also sought appropriate action based on the circumstances mentioned in the plea.
Meanwhile, Aleti Maheshwar Reddy stated that Danam Nagender, who was elected from BRS, later contested the Lok Sabha elections from Congress. He argued that this action should lead to disqualification. He demanded that Danam Nagender be declared disqualified from the day he filed his nomination from another party.
The petitioner also referred to Supreme Court verdicts on similar cases in Karnataka and Bihar. He cited these rulings to support his argument. Therefore, he urged the court to take a similar view in this matter.
However, the High Court has not given any final ruling yet. It has issued notices to Danam Nagender and the Assembly Secretary. The court has asked them to file their counter in response to the petition. The matter is now under consideration, and further proceedings are expected after the responses are submitted.
The case highlights ongoing legal scrutiny over party changes and disqualification issues. It also reflects the legal route taken by political leaders in such disputes. The outcome of the case will depend on the arguments presented before the court in the coming hearings.
