Fertiliser Reserves Assured, Says PM Modi

Hyderabad, March 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India has ample fertiliser reserves and diversified imports to support farmers. He addressed Parliament and highlighted steps taken to ensure adequate supply for the upcoming Kharif season.

He said the government has assessed farmers’ fertiliser needs. It has also maintained sufficient stock levels in recent years. Therefore, these measures will ensure timely availability and support food security. He added that the country is aiming for adequate sowing during the Kharif season.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister stressed that the government has taken several steps to support farmers. He said fertiliser imports have been diversified. He also highlighted the option of “Make in India fertiliser” for farmers. These steps aim to reduce dependence on external sources and strengthen domestic production.

He further noted that farmers have received more than 22 lakh solar pumps. These pumps help reduce dependence on diesel. As a result, they support cleaner energy use in agriculture. This also aligns with the government’s focus on sustainable practices.

At the same time, PM Modi highlighted the role of ethanol blending. He said this effort is helping reduce oil imports. “Because of ethanol blending, we now import 4.5 crore fewer barrels of oil every year,” he said. This reduction supports energy security, especially during global uncertainties.

He also said the central government has provided 15,000 e-buses to state governments. This step promotes the use of alternative fuels. Therefore, it contributes to a safer and more sustainable future.

Addressing the broader global context, he said energy is the backbone of the economy. He pointed out that West Asia remains a major source of global energy. However, the government is taking steps to reduce the impact of disruptions in the region. He added that the fundamentals of the Indian economy remain strong.

In a recent meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by him, the West Asia situation was reviewed. Discussions included finding alternative sources of fertilisers to ensure continued supply. It was also noted that coal stocks at power plants are adequate, which will prevent electricity shortages.

Moreover, the government discussed diversifying imports for sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals. It also plans to develop new export destinations to promote Indian goods. These measures aim to strengthen economic resilience and ensure stability in supply chains.
