Congress neglecting minorities | Hyderabad, March 23: Siddipet MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao accused the Congress government of failing minorities in Telangana. He said the government did not fulfil promises made before the elections.
Minority Sub-Plan yet to be implemented
Harish Rao said the Congress highlighted a Minority Declaration before coming to power. However, he said the promised Minority Sub-Plan has not been implemented even after two and a half years.
He also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He said budget figures show what he called a lack of commitment towards minority welfare.
Congress neglecting minorities | Spending below allocations, alleges Harish Rao
Harish Rao said the government allocated ₹3,590 crore for minority welfare in the 2025-26 budget. However, he claimed only ₹1,591 crore was spent. According to him, this represents just 45 percent utilisation.
Rao also said that in the 2024-25 financial year, the government spent only about 53 percent of the allocated funds.
Comparing this with the previous government led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, he said the BRS government spent about 75 percent of minority welfare allocations on average over nine years, except for one or two years.
Harish Rao alleged that under the present Congress government, spending has not crossed even 50 percent on average.
Concerns over Haj funds and scholarships
Harish Rao also alleged that the government has not released funds for the Haj pilgrimage in the past two years. He said this shows neglect towards minority communities.
Rao further claimed that around ₹700 crore in minority student scholarships under the RTF scheme remain pending. Despite this, he alleged the government reduced allocations by ₹100 crore in the current budget.
Hari Rao also said admissions in minority gurukul institutions have declined.
Seeks answers from Chief Minister
Calling it the third budget of the present government, Harish Rao said neglect of minorities continues. He asked when the Minority Sub-Plan promised before elections would be implemented.
Rao also demanded clarity on when pending scholarship dues would be cleared. He urged the Chief Minister to respond in the Assembly and clarify the government’s stand to the minority community.
