Washington/Internet/Hyderabad, Mar 25 (Maxim News): As the US-Iran war enters its fourth week, developments are taking an unexpected turn. Tensions between the two countries have reached a fever pitch. The US is moving its powerful Army 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East. While President Donald Trump says that talks are underway to stop the war, on the other hand, military exercises seem to be signs of the entry of US troops into Iran.
They have a special place in the US Army. These soldiers, who wear the insignia “All American” (AA), are capable of deploying anywhere in the world within just 18 hours. They are skilled at parachuting into the battlefield. Based at Fort Bragg, this unit conducts approximately 10,000 training jumps each month. They are credited with historic achievements such as the daring crossing of the ‘Val River’ during World War II.
The strategy behind the latest deployment is that, according to Pentagon reports, about 3,000 82nd Airborne soldiers are arriving in the Middle East, in addition to the thousands of Marines already there. The goal is to protect strategic oil routes and critical infrastructure. So far, the US has been limited to air strikes (about 9,000 targets) in the war that began on February 28. However, now the deployment of ground forces could change the course of the war.
On the one hand, global oil prices are skyrocketing due to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington is strengthening its defenses in response to drone and missile attacks by Iran. While Trump talks about talks, Iran dismisses them as fake news.
Although officials say that no decision has been made to send troops directly to Iranian soil for now, the growing number of these ‘paratroopers’ on the borders is raising fears that a major war could break out at any moment.
