Hyderabad, March 31: Telangana leaders have moved out of the state to campaign in the upcoming Assembly elections in five states. The development comes as the Assembly Budget Session faced delay, prompting the Chief Minister, ministers, and several MLAs to head to other states for election duties.
Political observers say the All India Congress Committee is giving high priority to these elections. The party is focusing strongly on Kerala and is relying on support from Telangana. As a result, Telangana leaders have been given key responsibilities in campaign management and strategy.
Meanwhile, polling in the first phase is set to conclude on April 9 in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry. In this context, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has already left for Kerala. He is currently handling arrangements for the campaign. Later, after the budget session was postponed indefinitely on Monday night, more leaders also began moving to Kerala.
Although elections are taking place in five states, reports indicate that Telangana leaders are focusing mainly on Kerala. The Congress party has fielded KC Venugopal as the Chief Ministerial candidate. Therefore, campaign activities are being closely monitored under the guidance of Telangana leadership. It is also reported that Mohammed Azharuddin will travel to Kerala along with Revanth Reddy.
Sources state that nearly 60 percent of the Telangana cabinet ministers are being sent to Kerala as polling approaches. With only nine days left, the campaign has intensified. Meanwhile, election activity is also high in Assam and Puducherry, where a direct contest is taking place between the NDA and Congress-led alliances.
In addition, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Ponnam Prabhakar have been appointed as star campaigners for northeastern states. Bhatti Vikramarka is expected to first visit Kerala and later travel to Puducherry for campaign duties.
Furthermore, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has been assigned responsibility for Tamil Nadu elections. AICC representatives said he will oversee candidate selection and ticket finalisation. Meanwhile, political equations in Tamil Nadu are gaining attention due to the political debut of actor Vijay, raising expectations of a tough contest for traditional parties.
