Hyderabad, April 15 (Maxim News) : Security forces engaged in a fierce encounter with Maoists in the Saranda forest region of West Singhbhum district on Wednesday. The operation targets top Maoist leader Misir Besra, who carries a reward of ₹1 crore.
According to officials, the encounter took place in the Babudera forest area during a joint combing operation. Teams from CoBRA battalion, Jharkhand Jaguar, and district police participated in the search.
As security personnel advanced into the forest, Maoists opened fire. Consequently, forces retaliated, leading to an exchange of gunfire. However, authorities have not confirmed any casualties so far.
The operation forms part of a larger crackdown on Maoist groups. Notably, the Centre had set a deadline of March 31, 2026, to eliminate Maoist presence across the country.
Following this, forces intensified search operations in forest regions. Currently, over 3,000 personnel are involved in combing operations in Jharkhand.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has earlier stated that the government aims to eradicate Maoism completely. Therefore, security agencies continue to track remaining armed groups.
Meanwhile, officials are focusing on locating Misir Besra, a senior Central Committee member. He remains a key target in the ongoing mission.
The situation remains tense in the forest area. Security forces continue the operation to neutralise Maoist elements and secure the region. (Maxim News)
