Opposing Women Reservation Will Have Consequences: PM Modi

Hyderabad, April 16: Narendra Modi said there will be consequences for those opposing women’s reservation. He made the remarks during a debate in the Lok Sabha on April 16, 2026.

Addressing members, he said the bill carries no political malice. He added that it aims to ensure equal participation of women in governance.

The Prime Minister said 33 percent reservation is a right of women. He stressed that it should not be seen as a favour. He also noted that efforts to pass such a law have continued for decades.

He assured that delimitation will not harm any state. He said there will be no discrimination between regions. He also rejected claims of a north south divide.

The Prime Minister urged all parties to support the bill unanimously. He said cooperation would reflect commitment to women’s rights.

He added that women voters will judge political parties on this issue. He said those opposing the bill may face public backlash.

Modi also invited opposition parties to share credit for the legislation. He called for unity to pass the bill without disruption.
