Hyderabad, April 16: Tejasvi Surya criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam during the Lok Sabha debate on delimitation and women’s reservation bills on April 16, 2026.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he termed the party’s concerns as “crocodile tears.” He said fears about reduced representation for southern states were unfounded.
Surya stated that equal value for every vote is a constitutional principle. He argued that seat allocation based on population reflects democratic norms.
He accused opposition parties of attempting to create a north south divide. He said such narratives were politically motivated and misleading.
Surya asserted that no state would face unfair treatment. He said the increase in total Lok Sabha seats would improve representation across regions.
He also criticised the DMK’s stand on women’s reservation. He alleged that the party was raising concerns to delay implementation of the 33 percent quota.
Referring to alliances, he said parties that earlier opposed the bill were now taking a different stance. He described this as contradictory.
Surya emphasised that delimitation is a constitutional process. He said it should be viewed through demographic data, not political considerations.
He expressed confidence that the proposed bills would strengthen representation. He added that they would ensure greater participation of women in Parliament.
