Hyderabad, April 19: Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje accused the Congress of dividing the country and criticised its stand on the Women’s Reservation Bill during a media conference in Hyderabad.
She described April 17 as a black day for women and alleged that Rahul Gandhi betrayed women by opposing the bill. She also termed it shameful that the party celebrated its defeat.
Congress Criticised Over Women Bill Stand
Karandlaje said the government led by Narendra Modi introduced several reforms for women, including the Nari Vandan initiative. She added that years of effort went into the Women’s Reservation Bill.
She further claimed that lakhs of women benefited from government schemes and gained financial independence. According to her, more women are now pursuing higher education and careers.
She questioned opposition parties for not participating in discussions despite time being allotted in Parliament. She also criticised the INDIA alliance’s protests against the bill.
Karandlaje also targeted Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over alleged unfulfilled promises. She questioned schemes announced for women and accused the state government of failing to deliver.
She further alleged that Congress had not implemented guarantees in Karnataka effectively. The minister reiterated that the party’s actions contradict its claims of supporting women.
