Chicken Prices Surge In Telangana Amid Heatwave Impact

Hyderabad, May 3: Chicken prices surge in Telangana as extreme summer heat disrupts poultry supply across the region. The sharp rise has added pressure on consumers already dealing with high temperatures.

According to market sources, soaring temperatures have severely affected poultry farms. As a result, large numbers of birds have died due to heat stress. Therefore, supply to markets has dropped significantly in recent days.

Although demand usually dips during summer, the sudden fall in supply has pushed prices upward. Within a week, chicken prices increased by nearly ₹40 per kg. Consequently, consumers now face higher costs for a staple protein source.

At present, prices in districts like Warangal and Nizamabad have reached around ₹270 per kg. Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, rates have climbed to nearly ₹280 per kg.

The situation appears more severe in Andhra Pradesh. In areas such as Srikakulam and Pithapuram, chicken prices have touched ₹300 per kg. Hence, consumers across both Telugu states are feeling the impact.

Experts say the poultry sector faces seasonal challenges every year. However, this year’s intense heat has worsened the situation. Moreover, fluctuating weather conditions have increased mortality rates among birds.

Traders expect prices to remain high in the short term. Only after temperatures drop and new batches of poultry enter the market will supply stabilize. Until then, chicken lovers may continue to face elevated prices.
