CJP Protest | New Delhi, Oct. 9: Mobile internet services have been suspended for 24 hours in parts of central Delhi ahead of a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The restrictions began at 10 pm on Friday, October 9, and are scheduled to continue until 10 pm on Saturday, October 10. The suspension covers an area within a four kilometre radius of the Janpath and Kartavya Path crossing.
Delhi Police said permission for the proposed demonstration was denied because organisers allegedly failed to comply with legal directions and undertakings given during an earlier protest.
CJP Protest | Metro Stations Closed, Security Tightened
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manishi Chandra wrote to telecom operators after the Union Home Secretary approved the suspension request under the applicable telecommunications rules.
Separately, authorities announced the closure of 57 Delhi Metro stations from 9 pm on Friday as part of security arrangements. Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is also in force in the New Delhi area to maintain public order.
The affected stations include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Mandi House, ITO, Delhi Gate, Kashmere Gate, Hauz Khas and several others.
Meanwhile, Railway Deputy Commissioner of Police B. Bharat Reddy said 334 Government Railway Police personnel had been deployed. Police have also sought 14 companies of Central Armed Police Forces to strengthen security at major railway stations.
Reddy said the deployment would continue around the clock at Delhi’s seven major railway stations to manage the movement of people arriving for the October 10 protest.
He added that passengers whose trains were operating as scheduled would not face inconvenience.
