Hyderabad, Oct. 9: BJP and Kisan Morcha leaders staged a protest against alleged power cuts affecting farmers in Warangal district on Friday. Police arrested several leaders after stopping the demonstration at Thimmapur substation on the Warangal–Khammam National Highway.
BJP Kisan Morcha State president Baswapuram Narsaiah alleged that the Congress government had failed to provide farmers with even five to six hours of quality electricity. He said this fell short of the promise of 24 hour free power supply.
Narsaiah claimed that irregular electricity supply was preventing farmers from operating borewells. As a result, he said, paddy crops were withering due to inadequate irrigation.
BJP Demands Compensation for Damaged Crops
Narsaiah demanded uninterrupted power supply and warned of further protests if the issue remained unresolved. He also threatened to lay siege to the Chief Minister’s residence.
BJP Warangal district president Ganta Ravikumar alleged that erratic power supply was causing financial losses to farmers. He demanded field inspections and compensation for every acre of damaged paddy.
Kisan Morcha State vice president Malladi Tirupathi Reddy said farmers in and around Wardhannapet were facing significant losses. He called for immediate action and said the agitation would continue until their concerns were addressed.
BJP National Council member Gujjula Premender Reddy, former MLAs MarthinenI Dharmarao and Kondeti Sridhar, along with other party leaders and activists, participated in the protest.
The demonstrators accused the state government of neglecting farmers’ electricity needs. Their claims about power supply and crop damage were not independently verified in the report.
