Hyderabad, May 6 (Maxim News) : Commissioner’s Task Force Golconda team and forest officials busted an illegal hunting gang in Shadnagar and Makthal forest areas.
They arrested six accused persons. The gang hunted wild animals like deer, peacock, rabbits, quail and doves using airguns. Police seized four airguns, one licensed rifle with 20 live rounds, a Scorpio car and eight mobile phones. The total worth of seized property reached Rs 8,00,000.
Officials found hunting videos recorded on Mohd Muzzafar Hussain’s mobile phone. The accused hunted over the past year. They often ate the meat together. Then they threw heads, skins and remains into nearby canals or Jurala backwaters. However, police acted swiftly during a joint operation. They apprehended the gang while hunting.
Mohd Muzzafar Hussain alias Guddu led the group. He runs a bird sales business near Kottamaissamma Kaman in Alijakotla, Hyderabad. Mir Ahmed Amir, a 27 year old shooter and student from Jedcherla, held the licensed 30.06 sporting rifle. He represents Telangana Rifle Association. Abdullah bin Sahain and Saud bin Mohd Balab run optical shops in Hyderabad.

The gang targeted peacocks, India’s national bird, multiple times. For example, on January 15, 2025, Muzzafar shot a peacock in Makthal forest. They ate it after hunting. Similarly, on March 18, 2025, they shot a wild pig. Later, villagers received it.
In April and May 2025, they killed several deer. They ate deer meat and stored some in Muzzafar’s refrigerator. On July 14, 2025, and February 18, 2026, more deer hunts followed. In November 2025, Amir shot a deer using Muzzafar’s airgun. Each time, they recorded videos and photos.
Meanwhile, police seized specific items. These included Vertigo 0.177 cal airgun, Walther Dominator 1250 .22 cal airgun, two Gamo 0.177 cal airguns, a black Ruike knife for halal, and airgun pellets. The Scorpio car bore the number AP10AN7137.
Authorities handed over the accused to the Forest Range Officer, Hyderabad East Range. A case registered under sections 2(35), 9, 52, 39, 51, 56 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Addl DCP Ande Srinivasa Rao supervised the arrest. Inspector R Venkatesh, SI K Venkatramana and staff led the operation. (Maxim News)
