Hyderabad, May 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to people across the country to use petrol and diesel sparingly in view of the ongoing global crisis and rising international crude oil prices. He made the appeal while addressing a public meeting at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad on Sunday.
The Prime Minister said the country must remain united during difficult times. He called on citizens to show patriotism through responsible spending and careful use of resources. He compared the present situation to the challenges faced during the Covid pandemic and urged people to cooperate for the nation’s economic stability.
Modi advised people to reduce the use of imported petroleum products and prefer public transport systems. He specifically encouraged citizens to use Metro Rail services wherever possible. He also suggested greater adoption of electric vehicles and carpooling to reduce fuel consumption.
According to the Prime Minister, conserving fuel would help India save valuable foreign exchange reserves at a time when global uncertainty continues to impact energy markets. He said the government was taking steps to protect the economy from the effects of the West Asia crisis and rising oil prices.

Modi said reducing gold imports would help strengthen India’s foreign exchange reserves.
Further, he urged farmers to reduce dependence on fertilizers and chemicals. He encouraged the use of solar pumps and promoted natural farming practices. Modi said India had already made major progress in solar energy and ethanol blending in petrol over the past few years.
He also supported work from home and online meetings to reduce travel and fuel usage. The Prime Minister stressed that every citizen could contribute to the country’s economic strength through small lifestyle changes.
