Hyderabad, May 15: The Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) completed the first phase of degree seat allotment with 56,147 students securing admissions in various undergraduate courses across Telangana.
Telangana State Council of Higher Education Chairman and DOST Convener V. Balakista Reddy announced the first phase allotment details along with the second phase schedule on Thursday.
According to officials, Commerce courses recorded the highest number of admissions with 23,214 students securing seats. Physical Sciences stood second with 14,394 admissions.
Among the total allotted candidates, 36,302 were girls while 19,845 were boys, reflecting higher participation of women students in degree admissions this year.
Across Telangana, 777 government, university and private colleges offered a total of 3,60,709 seats, out of which 56,147 seats were filled during the first phase.
Government colleges allotted seats to 8,079 students against 50,760 available seats in 116 colleges. Government autonomous colleges witnessed strong demand, with 19,774 students securing admissions.
DOST Second Phase Registrations Begin From May 15
Officials stated that private unaided colleges accounted for the highest number of institutions with 577 colleges. However, only 16,633 students secured seats in those colleges during the first phase.
University affiliated colleges also recorded significant admissions, with 3,495 seats filled out of 3,950 available seats.
The DOST Convener revealed that 79 colleges across the State failed to secure even a single admission during the first phase counselling process.
Top rankers in the allotment process secured seats in prestigious colleges. Pabba Srujana, who secured the first rank with 99.50 percent marks, opted for Physical Sciences and obtained admission in Nizam College.
Bodapothula Kiran Goud secured second rank with 99.50 percent marks and gained admission into Commerce and Management at Nizam College.
Bandi Shashikumar secured third rank in Physical Sciences, while Shaik Sameera from Chakali Ilamma Women’s University secured fourth rank with 99.50 percent marks.
Another topper, Aksa Taranam, secured admission into Life Sciences at Acharya Degree College in Zaheerabad.
Officials said some top rankers may later shift to engineering and other professional courses depending on their entrance examination admissions.
The second phase registrations and web options will continue from May 15 to May 26. Seat allotment for the second phase will be announced on May 30.
Students who secured seats in the first phase must complete online self reporting before May 23 to confirm their admissions. Officials warned that failure to complete self reporting within the deadline would result in cancellation of the allotted seat.
The Higher Education Council clarified that students allotted seats in government degree colleges and university colleges are not required to pay tuition fees.
Candidates allotted seats in all three phases must physically report at their respective colleges between June 20 and June 27. Officials stated that admissions would be cancelled if students fail to report within the stipulated period.
