Hyderabad: The National Testing Agency on Friday announced that the re-examination for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) will be conducted on June 21, bringing relief to more than 22 lakh medical aspirants across the country.
The announcement came days after the agency cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination held on May 3 following allegations of a nationwide question paper leak.
The cancellation had triggered uncertainty among students and parents regarding the revised examination schedule, admit cards and the admission process for medical courses across India.
In an official statement posted on its X handle, the NTA said the re-examination would be conducted on Sunday, June 21, after receiving approval from the Government of India.
“National Testing Agency has decided to conduct the re-examination of NEET (UG) 2026 on Sunday, 21 June 2026,” the agency stated.
Paper Leak Allegations Triggered Cancellation
The NTA had cancelled the examination on May 12 after multiple allegations surfaced regarding question paper leaks and irregularities in the conduct of the national entrance test.
The controversy led to large scale protests by students, parents and opposition parties, who demanded a transparent investigation and accountability from the authorities.
The case was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is currently probing the alleged interstate examination racket linked to the leak.
Investigators suspect the leaked paper circulated through coaching centres, intermediaries and messaging platforms before the examination. Several arrests have already been made in connection with the case.
The NEET UG examination serves as the gateway for admissions into MBBS, BDS and other undergraduate medical programmes across India. More than 22.79 lakh candidates had appeared for the cancelled examination conducted in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad.
Students are now awaiting detailed guidelines regarding fresh admit cards, examination centres and revised counselling schedules.
Officials are expected to release further instructions on the official NEET and NTA websites in the coming days.
