Centre Funding Every Paisa For Grain Purchase: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad, May 17: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday said the Central government was providing complete financial support for grain procurement in Telangana and accused the State government of negligence in purchasing produce from farmers.

Addressing a media conference in Hyderabad, Kishan Reddy questioned why procurement operations were being delayed despite the Centre releasing funds for the purpose.

He alleged that farmers across Telangana were facing severe hardship due to delays in grain procurement.

The Union Minister criticised the Congress government in Telangana for allegedly failing to fulfil promises made during the Assembly elections.

He claimed that the State government had not implemented assurances given to farmers, including bonus payments for small farmers.

“Every paisa for grain procurement belongs to the Centre. Why is the State government not purchasing grain from farmers?” Kishan Reddy asked.

He alleged that farmers were being forced to stage protests and dharnas demanding procurement of their crops.

Kishan Reddy said the State government must immediately respond to farmers’ concerns and speed up procurement operations.

He also urged ministers to visit districts personally and monitor grain procurement centres regularly.

According to him, farmers should not be made to wait for long periods at procurement centres during the ongoing agricultural season.

The Union Minister’s remarks come amid complaints from farmers in several districts over procurement delays and alleged lack of facilities at purchase centres.

The Telangana government has not yet officially responded to Kishan Reddy’s allegations.
