Hyderabad, May 17: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday accused the Congress and BRS of politicising the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana. He said the voter verification exercise was aimed at ensuring that every citizen has only one valid vote at one location.
Addressing media persons at the BJP State headquarters in Hyderabad, Kishan Reddy said errors in electoral rolls had resulted in some names appearing at multiple locations. He clarified that the SIR process was being conducted by Election Commission officials and government employees, not BJP workers.
He said Booth Level Officers would visit every household three times to verify voter details and update the rolls. He urged political parties not to spread misinformation or create unnecessary doubts about the exercise.
SIR exercise becomes political flashpoint
Kishan Reddy alleged that Congress and BRS leaders were making irresponsible statements against the voter verification drive without identifying any actual conspiracy. He questioned why the same process was acceptable in states where BJP did not win elections but was being criticised in Telangana and West Bengal.
He also alleged that illegal immigrants, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, should be identified and removed from the voter lists. According to him, political parties opposing the exercise were attempting to mislead the public for political gain.
The Union Minister further criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging that the State government lacked trust in its own employees and was attempting to create communal tensions over the voter revision exercise.
Kishan Reddy also accused the Congress government in Telangana of failing farmers despite repeated promises made during elections. He alleged that loan waivers remained incomplete and farmers were facing severe distress during grain procurement.
He said the Centre was providing full financial support for grain procurement and questioned why the State government was unable to ensure smooth purchase operations. The BJP leader alleged that the Congress government was making false claims instead of addressing public issues.
The Union Minister further accused the State government of failing to deliver the promised Rs 500 bonus for farmers. He said procurement delays were causing hardship to cultivators across Telangana and demanded that ministers personally monitor procurement operations in districts.
