Hyderabad, May 19 (Maxim News): Senior journalists and media experts on Tuesday said the journalism profession is undergoing rapid transformation in the digital era and stressed that media professionals must adopt modern technology and adapt to changing trends to move forward successfully.
The views were expressed during a journalists’ discussion programme organised by the Telangana Media Academy at the Media Academy Bhavan in Nampally under the chairmanship of K. Srinivas Reddy.
Senior journalists, academy affiliated members and media professionals participated in the meeting and held extensive discussions on the future direction of the media sector, digitalisation, media laws, journalist welfare, training programmes, social media impact and the future action plan of the academy.
Special Chief Commissioner of the Information and Public Relations Department G. Mukund Reddy attended the programme and appreciated the role of journalists in society.
Speaking on the occasion, Mukund Reddy said reading newspaper editorials during his journalism degree days inspired him to prepare for civil services. He said journalism laid the foundation for his success and expressed happiness at interacting with senior journalists at the programme.
Senior journalist I. Venkat Rao appreciated the activities being conducted by the Media Academy and announced that he would donate more books to the academy library.
Former MLC Ameer Ali Khan said journalism gave him courage and recognition in public life and thanked the academy for supporting journalists and media related activities.
Media experts stress AI awareness and digital journalism training
Senior journalist Udumula Sudhakar Reddy suggested that the academy establish digital classrooms and a media incubator in tune with modern journalism practices. He also recommended organising discussions on important subjects such as gag orders, media freedom and changing legal challenges faced by journalists.
Senior journalist Devulapalli Amar proposed that video interviews of 16 veteran journalists should be converted into books for the benefit of future generations.
Several participants said the influence of Artificial Intelligence in the media sector is increasing rapidly and stressed the need for journalists to improve awareness about emerging technologies and digital platforms.
Participants suggested that the Telangana Media Academy should organise advanced training programmes, internship programmes and specialised training sessions for desk journalists. They also recommended exclusive training programmes for women journalists and journalists working in rural areas.
Senior journalists stated that the academy should effectively utilise its digital infrastructure, including the modern auditorium, board room, library and computer room, to benefit journalists and journalism students.
Participants also suggested digitising old newspapers, rare books, Telugu publications and Nizam era documents to preserve valuable media history and make it accessible for future generations. Several senior journalists announced that they would donate rare and valuable books from their personal collections to the Media Academy library.
Speakers emphasised that reforms in media laws are necessary in tune with changing times. They also suggested introducing a separate code of conduct for social media platforms due to the growing influence of digital communication.
Senior journalists stated that journalism is a profession that reflects society and journalists have a responsibility to present facts honestly and fearlessly before the public.
Participants appreciated the Telangana Media Academy for its services towards journalist development since 1996. They said the academy’s book publications, monographs and training programmes have greatly benefited the media sector.
Senior journalists including K. Ramachander Murthy, Keshava Rao Dasu, S. Nagesh Kumar, Bandaru Srinivas Rao, Madabhushi Sridhar, Ravinder M.P., Dilip Reddy, M. Subbarao, Jagan, R.V. Rama Rao, S. Vinay Kumar, Y. Narender Reddy, Virahat Ali and several others participated in the discussion and shared their views on digitalisation, social media influence, media modernisation, journalist welfare, media laws, training programmes and the future roadmap of the academy.
Participants also appreciated the various programmes being conducted by the Media Academy and expressed hope that the institution would move further ahead in journalist welfare, training, digitisation and media modernisation initiatives.
At the end of the programme, Telangana Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy and Secretary Nagulapalli Venkateswara Rao jointly felicitated senior journalists with shawls in recognition of their contributions to the profession. (Maxim News)
