Hyderabad, May 19: A special POCSO court on Tuesday sentenced an auto driver to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in 2019.
Court convicts driver; orders compensation
The court found Abdul Rehman, 23, guilty of assaulting the child near railway tracks in the Rani Gunj area. The incident occurred on October 29, 2019, when the boy boarded an auto near Jalavihar to go to Ranigunj. The accused diverted the vehicle and took the boy into bushes near Bathukamma Kunta, the police said.
Locals heard the boy’s cries and rescued him. The child had head injuries after resisting the attack. Police arrested Rehman at the scene and later charged him following a complaint by the victim’s mother.
Rangoopalpet Police registered Crime No. 230/2019 under Sections 377 and 324 of the IPC and Sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act. The case was tried as SCPC No. 147/2020 before the Special Sessions Court at HACA Bhavan.
On May 19, 2026, Special Sessions Judge G. Uday Bhaskar Rao pronounced the verdict. The court sentenced Rehman to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000. The judge also directed payment of Rs 75,000 as compensation to the victim.
Secunderabad Zone DCP Rakshita Krishnamurthy praised the investigation and prosecution teams for securing the conviction. Investigating officer C. Venugopal Reddy, now Additional DCP Traffic II, and present Rangoopalpet SHO B. Suresh Kumar monitored the proceedings. Former Rangoopalpet Inspector Thota Chenchala Babu initially registered the complaint.
Special Additional Public Prosecutor A. Ramadevi and Additional Public Prosecutor K. Pratap Reddy argued the case. Legal counsellors T. Kalpana and R.H. Himameenon assisted the prosecution. ACP Challa Sridhar released the case details on behalf of Mahankali Division.
