Hyderabad, Sept. 23: Patancheru police arrested three people in connection with the murder of a cab driver and the alleged theft of his car in Sangareddy district.
Police said two other accused remain absconding. The incident occurred near an under construction road over bridge on the outskirts of Rudraram village along NH 65.
The victim was identified as Nelamarri Rajashekhar, who was driving a cab bearing registration number TG 09 T 4759.
According to police, the accused hired his cab near Swimming Pool Bus Stop beside the Task Force Office on SP Road, Secunderabad, on the night of September 10.
They allegedly told the driver they wanted to travel towards Mumbai.
Patancheru Police Trace Three Accused in Cab Driver Murder
Police said the accused took the cab towards Rudraram before attacking the driver at an isolated location.
They allegedly strangled Rajashekhar with a towel and left his body near the under construction road over bridge.
The accused then allegedly fled towards Mumbai in the stolen car.
However, the vehicle developed a mechanical problem near Kohir. They abandoned the car near Golden Dhaba and continued towards Zaheerabad, police said.
The victim had earlier been reported missing at Begumpet Police Station under Crime No. 629/2026.
Patancheru police initially registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators later added provisions relating to dacoity and criminal conspiracy.
Police arrested Ghodake Rahul, 28, of Maharashtra; Suraj Shashikanth Tawade, 29, of Maharashtra; and Bamble Raju Ramachandra, 33, of Maharashtra.
Police said the five accused had allegedly become acquainted in Secunderabad and planned to hire a cab, kill the driver and take the vehicle towards Mumbai.
According to investigators, they allegedly planned to commit thefts at gold shops after reaching Mumbai. They also allegedly planned to sell the stolen car.
Police said the investigation involved tracking the movements of the victim, vehicle and suspects.
The abandoned car and other relevant material were secured during the investigation.
The three arrested accused were produced before the court. Police are continuing efforts to trace the two absconding suspects.
