Hyderabad: The satirical “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP), launched only a few days ago, has emerged as a viral political sensation after crossing 9 million followers on Instagram, surpassing the official Instagram handle of the BJP in follower count.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s official Instagram account @bjp4india currently has around 8.7 million followers, while the Congress handle @incindia has approximately 13.2 million followers. The Aam Aadmi Party’s account has around 1.9 million followers.
The sudden rise of the Cockroach Janata Party has triggered widespread debate across political and social media circles. The platform has positioned itself as a youth driven satirical movement focusing on unemployment, institutional accountability, media independence and electoral reforms.
The movement was founded by Abhijeet Dipke, a 30 year old from Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district. Dipke recently completed his Master’s degree in Public Relations from Boston University in the United States. He describes himself as the “Founding President” of the Cockroach Janata Party.

The party’s Instagram bio states that it is “a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth.” Before pursuing higher studies abroad, Dipke reportedly worked as a volunteer with the Aam Aadmi Party’s social media team.
Viral ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ Movement Gains Political Attention
The movement reportedly gained momentum after controversial remarks linked to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing. Social media users interpreted the remarks as referring to unemployed youth as “cockroaches” and “parasites,” triggering outrage online and eventually leading to the launch of the Cockroach Janata Party on May 16.
However, the Chief Justice later clarified that his observations were directed at individuals using fake degrees to enter professions and not at the youth of the country. He stated that Indian youth continue to inspire him and described them as pillars of a developed India.
The Cockroach Janata Party website lists a five point agenda. These include no post retirement Rajya Sabha positions for Chief Justices, strict action against Election Commissioners accused of deleting legitimate votes, 50 percent reservation for women including Cabinet positions, cancellation of media licences owned by large corporate groups, and a 20 year ban on political defections.
Dipke said the larger goal of the movement is to promote independent institutions and strengthen democratic accountability. He claimed that institutions such as the judiciary, Election Commission and media should function independently without political influence.
Several opposition leaders have also reacted to the trend online. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra are among the leaders who amplified the movement on social media platforms.
While the Cockroach Janata Party currently remains an internet driven satirical campaign, its rapid popularity has sparked discussions on whether it could eventually evolve into a larger political movement.
