Hyderabad, May 22: Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Friday accused the Telangana government of failing to address the growing problems faced by farmers during the ongoing crop procurement season.
Speaking during a protest near the Secretariat in Hyderabad, Kavitha alleged that delays in paddy, jowar and sunflower procurement were causing severe hardship to farmers across the state.
She criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for allegedly ignoring repeated appeals over procurement issues and farmer welfare.
Kavitha and Telangana Rakshana Sena activists staged a dharna by pouring paddy on the road to highlight the farmers’ problems and demand immediate government intervention.
Farmers Facing Delays At Procurement Centres
Kavitha alleged that farmers were waiting for days at procurement centres without proper facilities amid severe heatwave conditions in Telangana.
According to her, several centres lacked drinking water, adequate shade, staff and unloading facilities. She also claimed that some farmers reportedly died due to heat and stress while waiting at procurement centres.
She further alleged that officials were registering Grade A paddy as lower grade produce to avoid paying the government-announced bonus for fine-quality rice varieties.
Kavitha demanded that the government immediately begin full-scale procurement without imposing unnecessary deductions or quality-related reductions.
She also raised concerns over fertiliser shortages in several districts and claimed that the government’s digital application system had created confusion among farmers, especially in rural areas.
The Telangana Rakshana Sena leader urged the government to streamline procurement operations and ensure timely payments and bonuses for farmers.
