Hyderabad, May 23: The Telangana government has officially shifted the Bakrid holiday from May 27 to May 28, 2026, following recommendations from the Telangana Wakf Board and the Minorities Welfare Department.
The General Administration Department issued G.O.Rt. No. 718 on May 22 confirming that Eid ul Azha holiday will now be observed on Thursday, May 28, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
Officials said the Telangana Wakf Board informed the government that the final festival date would depend on moon sighting. Subsequently, the Minorities Welfare Department recommended revising the holiday date.
Bakrid Holiday Revised Across Telangana
The government partially modified the earlier notification issued through G.O.Rt. No. 1716 dated December 6, 2025. Authorities have now been directed to observe May 28 as the official public holiday for Bakrid across Telangana.
Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao issued the orders in the name of the Governor of Telangana.
The government also instructed the Commissioner of Printing, Stationery and Stores Purchase Department to publish the revised notification in the extraordinary Telangana Gazette.

In addition, the Information and Public Relations Department was directed to give wide publicity to the revised Bakrid holiday through media platforms.
The order has been communicated to all government departments, district collectors, universities, banks, public sector institutions and administrative offices across the state.
The revised holiday will apply to government offices, educational institutions, banks and establishments covered under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Officials said the decision would help avoid confusion and allow people to celebrate Bakrid on the officially observed festival date.
