Single Helpline Number Across The Country: 112 Must Be Implemented: Supreme Court Order

Delhi/Hyderabad, May 29 (Maxim News):  Soon a single helpline number will be implemented across the country for everyone and everything. The Supreme Court on Friday issued orders to the central government, state governments and union territories to implement the number 112 as an emergency number across the country.

It has advised the governments to make appropriate arrangements to implement this number within three months. The court, which heard a petition filed in the Supreme Court by the road safety NGO Save Life Foundation, issued the latest orders.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice AS Chandrasekhar conducted an inquiry into the matter and gave the order. Several emergency numbers are already in operation across the country. 100 for police, 101 for fire services, 102, 108 for ambulances, 1033 for help on highways, and 1091 for women’s safety are in operation across the country.

However, many people are confused about which number to call when road accidents occur. Due to this, they do not get the help they need in emergency situations, which is why Save Life Sanstha has requested that there should be a single emergency service number for all.

In this context, the Center has suggested that all of them be combined into a single number, 112. According to the court’s comments, everyone has the right to receive emergency medical services as per Article 21 of the Constitution.

The court commented that in road accident situations, every minute is important and the condition of the victims can deteriorate within moments. The court opined that if emergency services are delayed, it will be difficult to save the victims. It said that if the victims respond quickly, they can be saved.
