Hyderabad, May 29: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday expressed concern that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise could affect the votes of migrant workers and vulnerable communities in the state.
The Chief Minister said the ongoing voter list revision process may lead to deletion of votes belonging to Adivasis, Lambadas, Dalits, minorities and women.
He made the remarks while addressing the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Political Affairs Committee and State Advisory Committee meetings at Gandhi Bhavan along with Meenakshi Natarajan.
During the meeting, Congress leaders discussed strategies to prevent deletion of eligible voters during the SIR exercise being conducted by the Election Commission of India.
Congress Plans Strategy For SIR Exercise
Revanth Reddy announced that party in-charges would be appointed for all 119 Assembly constituencies and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana.
He said the move aims to ensure that voters from crucial sections remain on the electoral rolls during the SIR process.
The Chief Minister recalled the party’s digital membership drive, during which around 45 lakh members were enrolled across the state over 90 days.
He said booth-level enrollers who participated in the membership campaign would now play a key role in monitoring the SIR exercise.
Revanth Reddy also directed district in-charge ministers to meet grassroots party workers at least once every ten days to strengthen booth-level coordination.
He said he would personally spend three days every month interacting with party workers.
The Chief Minister noted that Congress representatives, including sarpanches, municipal corporators and corporation chairpersons, must ensure that voter deletions do not occur in their respective areas.
He also instructed Rajya Sabha members and MLCs to focus on 15 Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad where the SIR process is considered sensitive.
According to him, meetings should be conducted in these constituencies to prepare party workers for voter verification activities.
Revanth Reddy further directed the Mahila Congress to hold cluster-level meetings on the SIR exercise and gather suggestions from former PCC presidents.
