Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad has forecast rainfall and thundershowers in the city till June 9, while indicating that the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive next week, officials said.
The weather department said Hyderabad will continue to experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds during this period, with generally cloudy skies expected till Tuesday.
Yellow Alert Issued for Hyderabad
In view of changing weather conditions ahead of the monsoon, IMD Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert for the city. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially during periods of gusty winds and sudden downpours.
For Telangana as a whole, the IMD has forecast heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls in several districts until June 6.
Heavy Rainfall in Several Districts
On the previous day, intense rainfall activity was recorded in districts including:
- Nalgonda
- Khammam
- Nagarkurnool
- Wanaparthy
- Jogulamba Gadwal
- Suryapet
- Bhadradri-Kothagudem
The department said these regions are likely to continue experiencing unstable weather conditions in the coming days.
According to IMD Hyderabad, most districts in Telangana may not see significant rainfall alerts after June 6, even as monsoon conditions develop further.
However, Hyderabad may continue to see intermittent showers till June 9.
Monsoon Progress in Southern India
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has intensified over Kerala, with IMD issuing red alerts in several northern districts due to extremely heavy rainfall.
Districts including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod have been placed under red alert, while other parts of Kerala remain under orange and yellow alerts.
Advisory for Hyderabad Residents
With rain activity expected to continue and monsoon onset likely next week, officials have advised residents to plan travel carefully and remain alert to weather updates.
