New Delhi: A crowd gathered at Jantar Mantar on Friday after police granted permission for a planned protest organised by the satirical online group “Cockroach Janta Party”, officials and organisers said.
The protest was announced by founder Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived in the national capital ahead of the demonstration and said he was “looking forward to meet all at Jantar Mantar” while calling for a peaceful movement.
“We have to lead this movement with love and peace,” Dipke posted on X, as supporters began assembling at the protest site.
Earlier this week, Dipke announced that he would return to India from Boston on June 6 to launch a peaceful protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination-related irregularities.
The online movement, which describes itself as satirical, has gained attention on social media platforms in recent weeks, drawing participation from students and activist circles.
Education reformer and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has also stated that he may join the protest if the minister does not resign by June 5, adding further visibility to the gathering.

In anticipation of the protest, security has been significantly tightened across the capital. Police officials said additional forces have been deployed at:
- Indira Gandhi International Airport
- Border entry points
- Sensitive locations across Delhi
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure law and order during the demonstration.
While organisers have stressed the protest will remain peaceful, officials said they are taking precautionary measures given the expected crowd movement at one of Delhi’s key protest venues.
