Hyderabad, Oct. 25: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized Rs. 2.4 lakh in unaccounted cash from A. Srinivas, a Joint Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), during a surprise check on Saturday evening.
According to the ACB, it received an anonymous tip alleging that a senior HMWSSB official was carrying cash suspected to have been illegally collected at his office while travelling home.

Acting on the information, ACB officials kept the vehicle under surveillance and intercepted it at around 7 pm opposite Metro Residency Apartments on Raj Bhavan Road. The car was reportedly being driven by Srinivas, who is posted at the HMWSSB office in Khairatabad.
ACB Refers Cash Seizure to Income Tax Department
During the inspection, officials found Rs. 2,40,000 in cash in Srinivas’s possession. The ACB said he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the money and reportedly gave inconsistent answers when questioned.
Officials seized the cash under a panchnama for further verification. The agency is examining the circumstances surrounding the cash and whether there is any possible corruption angle.
The ACB has also informed the Income Tax Department for necessary action.
Further action will depend on the findings of the verification process, officials said. The seizure and allegations do not, by themselves, establish that the money was obtained through corruption.
