Hyderabad, June 25: The Telangana High Court granted interim relief to private college managements by staying certain provisions of G.O. No. 9 issued by the State government regarding collection of fees from students. The court directed that the stay would remain in force until Tuesday.
During the hearing, the High Court questioned the State government over pending fee reimbursement dues and raised concerns about the functioning of educational institutions.
The court asked why reimbursement arrears had not been cleared and sought details on budget allocation and timelines for payments. Judges also questioned how colleges could continue operations if they were restricted from collecting fees while reimbursement amounts remained unpaid.
Private colleges seek clarity on reimbursement dues
Responding to the court, the government counsel stated that pending reimbursement arrears would be cleared by August 15.
Counsel appearing for private colleges informed the court that managements would consider withdrawing their petitions if the dues were released as indicated.
Students also filed an implead petition in the case. During arguments, their counsel said students were caught between the government and college managements and requested measures to ensure they do not suffer because of pending reimbursements.
The government informed the court that further submissions would be made by the Advocate General during the next hearing.
The High Court adjourned the matter to Tuesday.
