Hyderabad, June 26: Heavy rains are likely across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next three days as the Southwest Monsoon strengthens across the region. Weather officials have advised people to remain alert, especially in districts expected to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
The Amaravati Meteorological Centre forecast heavy rain on June 26 in Anakapalli, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, Polavaram, West Godavari, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Visakhapatnam districts.
The department said several other districts may receive rain accompanied by lightning. Therefore, farmers, agricultural workers and cattle herders have been advised to move to safe places during thunderstorms.
Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also expected in many parts of the State.
Moderate rainfall is likely across North Coastal Andhra and Coastal Andhra on Thursday. During the last 24 hours, Garugubilli in Parvathipuram Manyam district recorded the highest rainfall of 5.2 cm.
Gudivada and Parvathipuram received 3.5 cm each, while Narsapuram recorded 3.3 cm. Bhimadole received 3 cm, Kaikaluru 2.9 cm, Vizianagaram 2.7 cm, Amalapuram 2.6 cm and Paleru Bridge 2.4 cm.
The Meteorological Department also predicted heavy rain across Rayalaseema during the next three days. Gusty winds are expected to continue in the region.
Officials cautioned that while some areas will receive good rainfall, others may continue to experience high temperatures. Farmers have been advised to plan cropping patterns carefully, considering the possible impact of El Niño conditions.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre forecast heavy rainfall across Telangana for the next three days.
Heavy rain is expected in Mancherial, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts on June 26 and 27.
Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Gadwal districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on June 27 and 28.
The department also forecast heavy rain in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts on June 28 and 29. In addition, lightning alerts have been issued for several districts, and residents have been advised to take necessary precautions.
