Delhi, June 27: Tensions escalated again in the Strait of Hormuz after an oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the strategic shipping route, according to British maritime authorities.
The vessel involved was identified as the Panama flagged tanker KIKU. The attack damaged the ship’s bridge, but all crew members were reported safe and no environmental damage was recorded. Authorities are investigating the incident and have not identified those responsible.
Hormuz Tensions Raise Fresh Concerns Over Oil Security
The incident marks one of the first reported attacks on a commercial oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz since recent diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between the United States and Iran.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations advised vessels operating in the region to remain cautious and report suspicious activity while continuing transit through designated maritime corridors.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy routes, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments. Any disruption in the area is closely watched by energy markets and governments worldwide.
Recent exchanges of military action and counter action in the Gulf region have renewed concerns over regional stability and maritime security despite ongoing diplomatic engagement.
