Her resignation letter, addressed to Mamata Banerjee, said she will no longer handle party responsibilities or act as an authorised representative before the Election Commission.

Chandrima was appointed state president on June 5 but left the role a month later, after the party’s assembly election defeat.

She told party leaders she met Mamata Banerjee at Kalighat before sending her resignation, but she gave no public reason for quitting.

The move ends her authority to sign for party bank transactions and to represent the party to the Election Commission.

The resignation adds to internal turmoil within the TMC after several key leaders and legislators rebelled in June and July.

Ritabrata Banerjee leads a breakaway group of MLAs claiming control of the party in a separate organisational session, and the Election Commission has issued notices to both factions.

TMC has not yet issued a detailed public response to Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation.
