Apollo Medical College | Soma Raju tells Apollo medical graduates to put human understanding first
Dr Soma Raju said Dr Prathap C Reddy had transformed private healthcare in India. He told the graduates that a physician needs technical skill, scientific knowledge and human understanding, a point he drew from the first edition of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine in 1950. Technology and AI make knowledge more accessible, he said, but human understanding remains irreplaceable.

He asked the graduates to see the person behind the disease and to practise with courage, humility and wisdom. “Medicine is a privilege, a responsibility and an obligation,” he said. He also advised them to surround themselves with people better than themselves. On the growing number of women in medicine, he said balancing professional and family life calls for strong management skills.
Shiva Rama Krishnan, CEO of Apollo Knowledge, urged the graduates to keep learning and to embrace technology. He said AI will not replace healthcare professionals, but those who use it will outperform those who do not.
AIMSR Dean Dr K Manohar said 34 MBBS graduates secured first-class marks. He said 42 of the 45 postgraduate students passed, with 14 earning first-class honours. He advised the graduates to communicate well and remain lifelong learners.
Aparna Reddy, COO of AIMSR, welcomed the gathering and wished the graduates success as physicians, researchers and healthcare leaders.
