Hyderabad, July 5: Hyderabad City Police have warned students and parents against unaffiliated degree colleges falsely claiming affiliation with Osmania University to attract admissions. The police urged aspirants to verify the affiliation status of institutions before enrolling for the 2026 27 academic year.
City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said senior officials of Osmania University brought the issue to the police’s notice. An inquiry found that several colleges were advertising themselves as affiliated with the university without obtaining the required approval.
According to the investigation, these institutions lacked official affiliation or permission from Osmania University. However, they allegedly used misleading advertisements and false claims to attract students, putting their academic future at risk.
Police have initiated legal action against colleges found violating regulations and conducting admissions through deceptive publicity.
Students and parents have been advised not to rely solely on advertisements. Instead, they should verify the affiliation status of colleges before taking admission.
The police also urged students to seek admissions only through institutions listed on the official Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) portal, which includes colleges with valid government recognition.
Sajjanar warned that strict action would be taken against managements misleading students. He also appealed to the public to report such colleges by calling Dial 100 or informing the nearest police station.
