Hyderabad, July 6 (Maxim News): AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, held a workshop for volunteer lawyers on Monday at the City Convention Centre in Nampally.
The session focused on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Lawyers received guidance on helping voters respond to SIR notices and attend hearings.
He urged the Telangana government to ensure that no eligible poor person loses their name from the electoral roll during the SIR process. He stressed that the revision must not result in wrongful deletions.
Demanding Permanent Residence Certificates (PRC) for the people of the state, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi says, “..If the Congress Govt doesn’t react, do not react later when the names of poor will be deleted (from voter list). BRS is strange. You are the main Opposition. You were in power for 10 years. Write to Election Commission regarding the non-availability of three documents among the twelve listed documents in Telangana…”
Furthermore, Owaisi warned that if the state government failed to act in time, it would have to face public accountability.
He did not specify the nature of the accountability he referred to. However, his remarks pointed to the political consequences of any large-scale voter deletion among poor and minority communities.
AIMIM Deploys Volunteer Lawyers to Guide Voters Through SIR Notice and Hearing Process
The workshop marks a key step in AIMIM’s response to the SIR process. The party is deploying trained lawyers across Hyderabad to assist voters.
These advocates will guide residents who receive notices from Electoral Registration Officers. They will also help voters attend hearings and submit supporting documents.
Moreover, the SIR process began on June 25, 2026. It involves house-to-house enumeration, certificate verification, and a claims and objections period.
The Election Commission of India is running the revision to clean and update Telangana’s voter rolls ahead of future elections. The final electoral roll was published on October 1, 2026.
Additionally, concerns about voter deletions during SIR have been raised by several political parties and civil society groups across the state.
The ECI has maintained that the process aims to remove only ineligible or duplicate entries. However, opposition parties have called for vigilance to protect genuine voters from wrongful removal.
The Telangana government has not yet issued a formal response to Owaisi’s remarks at the workshop. The SIR enumeration phase continues until July 24, 2026. Voters who receive notices may contact their Booth Level Officer or call the toll-free helpline at 1950 for assistance. (Maxim News)
