Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar announced the formation of the committee on Monday. The panel will review the proposed legislation and recommend changes before presenting its report to the House.

The Assembly had referred the Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Bill, 2026 to a Select Committee on March 30 after members from several political parties raised objections and suggested amendments.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar introduced the Bill on behalf of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during the Budget Session.

The Bill faced opposition from the BRS, BJP, AIMIM and the Congress ally CPI. CPI member Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao sought its withdrawal and questioned provisions that could hold an entire political party responsible for statements made by individual members.

Although the Assembly decided to send the Bill to a Select Committee in March, the panel was not constituted at that time. The government has now formally announced the 13 member committee to examine the proposed legislation.
