New Delhi: The Delhi government has renamed its flagship Mahila Samriddhi Yojana as the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana and plans to launch the scheme around Raksha Bandhan next month, under which eligible women will receive ₹2,500 per month as financial assistance.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the implementation of the scheme during a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday and directed officials to ensure that the benefits reach all eligible women in a transparent, simple, and time-bound manner.
Eligible Women to Get ₹2,500 Every Month
Under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, women aged 21 to 60 years who meet the eligibility criteria will receive ₹2,500 every month to promote financial independence and economic empowerment.
Chief Minister Gupta said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women-led development and aims to provide women with financial security, self-reliance, and a dignified life.
She said empowering women financially contributes to the progress of families, society, and the nation.
Eligibility Criteria Finalised
The government has finalised several eligibility conditions for beneficiaries.
Women must have been residents of Delhi for at least 10 years, either individually or through their families.
The beneficiary or her family should have no criminal record, and only one woman per family will be eligible, with preference given to the eldest eligible woman.
The family’s annual income must not exceed ₹2.5 lakh.
Women already receiving benefits under any government pension or regular financial assistance scheme will not qualify. Families owning a four-wheeler will also be excluded from the scheme.
Launch Planned Around Raksha Bandhan
Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma and senior officials attended the review meeting, where the Chief Minister instructed departments to strictly follow the scheme’s guidelines and ensure transparency in implementation.
The Delhi government expects the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana to benefit lakhs of women across the national capital after its launch around Raksha Bandhan next month.
