Suryapet Ground Water Officer Caught By ACB While Accepting Rs. 20,000 Bribe

Hyderabad, July 15 (Maxim News): The Suryapet Ground Water Officer ACB trap led to the arrest of a District Ground Water Officer and an outsourced Data Entry Operator after they allegedly demanded and accepted a Rs 20,000 bribe for granting official permission for a borewell drilling rig.

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted the trap on Tuesday and recovered the bribe amount during the operation.

According to the ACB, the accused officer allegedly sought the bribe to approve the complainant’s borewell drilling rig and to avoid imposing unnecessary fines or seizing the rig.

Suryapet Ground Water Officer ACB Trap: Two Officials Booked

The ACB identified the accused as Megavath Balu, District Ground Water Officer, Ground Water Department, Suryapet district, and Kosanjoju Venkateshwarlu, an outsourced Data Entry Operator working in the same department.

Officials said the District Ground Water Officer allegedly demanded the bribe through the Data Entry Operator. Subsequently, the outsourced employee accepted the money from the complainant on behalf of the officer.

During the operation, ACB officials recovered the Rs 20,000 tainted cash from the possession of the Data Entry Operator at his instance.

Therefore, investigators concluded that both accused officials misused their official positions to obtain an undue advantage.

The Anti Corruption Bureau registered a case against both accused under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Furthermore, officials said they will produce the accused before the Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Nampally, for judicial remand.

Meanwhile, the ACB has withheld the identity of the complainant for security reasons.

The bureau also confirmed that the investigation remains in progress to determine whether any additional violations or persons are connected to the case.

The Suryapet Ground Water Officer ACB trap forms part of the bureau’s continued drive against corruption in public offices across Telangana.

Moreover, the agency urged citizens to report any demand for bribes by public servants through its toll free helpline 1064 or its official complaint platforms. Officials assured the public that they will keep the identity of complainants confidential.

The ACB reiterated that timely public complaints play a crucial role in preventing corruption and ensuring transparent delivery of government services across the state.
