Siddipet, July 19: BRS MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao on Sunday demanded that the Telangana government immediately operate the Kaleshwaram project pumps and supply irrigation water to farmers, warning that the BRS would continue its agitation until the issue is resolved.
Participating in the party’s padayatra in Siddipet, Harish Rao alleged that Godavari waters were being allowed to flow downstream without being effectively utilised for irrigation in Telangana.
Harish Rao criticised the State government, saying farmers were facing hardship due to the lack of irrigation water.
He urged the government to switch on the motors at the Kaleshwaram project and ensure water reaches agricultural fields without delay.
Referring to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, he claimed the State was utilising every possible opportunity to secure water resources, while Telangana was failing to do so.
The former minister accused Congress leaders of criticising former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao instead of addressing farmers’ concerns.
“If you criticise KCR, farmers will not get water. Turn on the motors, and they will,” Harish Rao said, urging the government to prioritise irrigation over politics.
He alleged that the government was risking the livelihoods of lakhs of farmers and warned that continued inaction could also affect power generation.
Harish Rao also rejected Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s reported remarks regarding Bhadrachalam, calling them baseless.
He demanded that the government fill all reservoirs and claimed that Telangana had the potential to provide irrigation water to nearly 60 percent of its agricultural lands.
The BRS leader reiterated that his party would continue protesting until the government ensured adequate irrigation water for farmers across the State.
